Shana Barry grew up on Peaks Island and made her first doll when she was four. She created the Fofers in 2005 while living on Moose Island, also known as Eastport. As she sewed and sculpted the first three-foot tall Fofer dolls, Shana began to imagine the world they inhabited, inspired by her childhood island and the island of her dreams. A singer-songwriter, Shana wrote the tales of Fof as songs, then recorded the Foferific album A Pink Whale and a Very Tall Tree at home. A painter and illustrator, she taught herself animation to bring the story songs of Fof to life. Shana designed Fofers.com to share the videos and free Foferific art projects. The dolls, music and animations were combined to create The Fofer Show, which Shana has performed over forty times since June 2009, from Eastport to Dover-Foxcroft, from Stonington to Peaks Island, and all the way to 92YTribeca in New York City.
